How You Can Help Stop Loan Modification Scams

The most important way for partners to help the Network in its mission to fight loan modification scams is by reporting incidents on behalf of homeowners to our national Database.

Reporting scams to the Network is easy.  Just ask homeowners two simple questions:

  1. Did anyone offer to help modify your mortgage, either directly, through advertising, or by other means such as a flyer?
  2. Were you guaranteed a loan modification or asked to do to any of the following: pay a fee, sign a contract, redirect mortgage payments, sign over title to your property, or stop making loan payments?

If the answer to either question is yes, help the homeowner report the potential scam.

NOTE:  To receive a unique URL that will allow the Network to automatically track the complaints your organization submits on behalf of homeowners, please email us atparntersupport@preventloanscams.org to become an official reporting partner.

  • While we prefer all partners submit complaints online, paper forms are available in thePartner Toolkit.

In addition to urging organizations to report scams to its Database, the Loan Modification Scam Prevention Network is seeking partners to:

  • Educate the public on how to avoid scams;
  • Promote the loan modification scam complaint form (through linking to, and advertising in, emails, newsletters, earned media, and on websites); and
  • Partner with local Network efforts in their jurisdictions.
